VISION

The Human Rights House Belgrade is dedicated to building a democratic and open society based on respect for human rights and the rule of law.

MISSION

The Human Rights House Belgrade strives to educate citizens about human rights and how to exercise them. We advocate for the improvement of laws to align them as closely as possible with international human rights standards and democratic principles. We monitor the work of state institutions to ensure that international human rights standards are respected.

OUR NETWORK

We collaborate with organizations that share the same goal — building a democratic society. Through cooperation and joint activities, we aim to positively influence social change and improve the state of human rights. We also closely follow current social developments, respond promptly and adequately to human rights violations, and tirelessly contribute to the promotion of a democratic society.

GOALS

In our efforts to comprehensively act in the field of human rights and the construction of a democratic and open society, we focus particularly on the following goals:

  • Implementing the principle of respect for human rights in all areas of social life in Serbia, based on national and international standards;
  • Raising awareness of the importance of respecting human rights;
  • Strategic advocacy for victims in cases of human rights violations;
  • Improving judicial practices in the field of human rights;
  • Documenting the current state of human rights to monitor progress and create collective awareness based on recorded cases of human rights violations;
  • Building a democratic society based on the rule of law through the promotion and increased participation of citizens in all areas of social life.

To achieve these goals, the member organizations of the Human Rights House Belgrade coordinate their activities and implement projects in the areas of their expertise and strategic focus. Each member organization applies its knowledge and previous experience in implementing joint projects.

WORK PRINCIPLES

  • Teamwork

The Human Rights House Belgrade is based on the belief that collaboration between member organizations, which deal with human rights and democratization in various areas of society with different strategic perspectives, leads to a more consistent and comprehensive policy in this field. This teamwork approach results in faster and more effective social change..

  • Cooperation and mutual support

In addition to collaboration between member organizations, the Human Rights House Belgrade maintains strong cooperation with national and international organizations, as well as other institutions and civil society organizations. We believe that cooperation, mutual support, and continuous communication are essential to ensuring effective work on improving human rights and promoting democratization in Serbia.

  • Presence in society

The Human Rights House Belgrade places special emphasis on promoting its programs, not only within the civil society sphere but also to the general public. To give citizens a clearer understanding of the role of civil society, we work on increasing general levels of citizen participation and activism and strengthening influence on decision-makers at the institutional level.

  • Transparency

Our work is transparent in all areas we are involved in.

ACTIVITIES

The Human Rights House Belgrade conducts its activities through:

  • Educational seminars, conferences, workshops, and training sessions;
  • Research, analysis, monitoring of the work, and capacity-building of institutions;
  • Conducting advisory processes with relevant state authorities, the media, and civil society organizations, as well as providing recommendations in certain areas;
  • Representing victims of human rights violations and strategic cases to create relevant judicial practices;
  • Organizing campaigns and promotional activities, publishing the results of our work, research, and educational programs;
  • Issuing statements and providing commentary on current topics and issues.
