TOGETHER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS

Share

Donor: Human Rights House Foundation
Project Duration: February 1 – December 31, 2025

The project aims to strengthen the protection of Human Rights Defenders in Serbia through coordinated efforts of civil society organizations and their more active involvement in international human rights protection mechanisms.

Project activities are focused on improving strategic planning, reporting to United Nations (UN) bodies, establishing dialogue with UN Special Procedures, engaging in international advocacy, and raising awareness about the challenges faced by Human Rights Defenders in Serbia.

As part of the project, the first strategic plan for the Human Rights House Belgrade for the period 2025–2030 will be developed, laying the foundation for its long-term and sustainable work. The project also includes the preparation of alternative reports for relevant United Nations bodies, with a particular emphasis on establishing and enhancing communication with UN Special Rapporteurs. Findings and recommendations from these reports will serve as the basis for joint advocacy efforts in the UN, the Council of Europe, and the European Union.

The project also foresees the organization of the Annual Human Rights Conference at the Human Rights House Belgrade, which will bring together civil society organizations, international partners, and institutional representatives.

Thematic priorities of the project include:

  • Protection of human rights defenders
  • Freedom of expression
  • Freedom of assembly and association
  • Right to privacy

The project will contribute to strengthening the capacity of the Human Rights House as a key actor in the field of human rights and to improving the connection between domestic organizations and international human rights mechanisms and advocacy platforms.
